Requirement
Required Documents
All driving courses require a valid Texas learner permit.
A. Road Test for Teen Driver
You need to bring the following documents for your road test:
i) A valid Texas learner permit. You must hold the learner license for at least six months, unless you turn 18. Your learner license will expire on your 18th birthday.
ii) You must be between 16 and 17 years of age.
iii) Texas driver education certificate of completion (DE-964).
iv) You must have completed behind-the-wheel portion of driver education, which includes:
a) 7 hours in car observation
b) 7 hours behind the wheel
c) 30 hours behind the wheel driving practice, of which at least 10 hours must be at night.
v) Impact Texas Driver Program Certificate of Completion (I-PACT: ITTD). This certificate will expire after 90 days.
vi) We recommend you use the TDS car for your driving test. If you use your own vehicle, you will need to provide proof of vehicle insurance and registration.
vii) You need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
B. Road Test for Adult Driver
You need to bring the following documents for your road test:
a) If you are 18-24 years of age
i) Texas driver education certificate of completion (ADE 1317).
ii) A valid Texas learner license.
iii) Impact Texas Driver Program Certificate of Completion (I-PACT: ITAD). This certificate will expire after 90 days.
iv) We recommend you use the TDS car for your driving test. If you use your own vehicle, you will need to provide proof of vehicle insurance and registration.
b) If you are 25 years of age or older
i) A valid Texas learner license.
ii) Impact Texas Driver Program Certificate of Completion (I-PACT: ITAD). This certificate will expire after 90 days.
iii) We recommend you use the TDS car for your driving test. If you use your own vehicle, you will need to provide proof of vehicle insurance and registration.
If you are older than 25 and are applying for a Texas driver license for the first time, you are not required to have completed driver education, however it is highly recommended.
